Natural Disaster Mitigation Policies
Natural Disaster Mitigation Policies
Disaster mitigation and risk reduction policies are vitally important. In this Chapter we review mitigation policies in a number of countries, including case studies on the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility and the Mexican CAT Bond. The identification of vulnerability factors is discussed before looking at different types of public and private sector policies. Effective mitigation policies must take into the account the need for information systems, hazard reduction rules and insurance and government funds.
