This chapter describes the challenges that openly conservative professors confront in the academy and the strategies they use to navigate their profession. We outline three styles conservatives use to manage social conflict with their progressive colleagues: assimilative, evasive, and combative. It further reflects on why some approaches succeed, while others fail. And it considers the limits to inclusion in the progressive university. For example, when outspoken conservatives find themselves in politicized institutions and when the controversial issues they pontificate about also become politically salient, then conservatives risk serious threats to their careers.
