John Barry was unavailable for For Your Eyes Only, so he recommended American composer Bill Conti (Rocky) for the job. Conti originally envisioned a Barbra Streisand lyric and a Donna Summer vocal, but United Artists recommended 21-year-old Scottish singer Sheena Easton as the singer. With a Mick Leeson lyric, Easton not only sang “For Your Eyes Only” to a no. 4 spot on the American charts, she became the first — and only — Bond singer to actually appear in the film's title sequence (the result of veteran Bond title designer Maurice Binder's desire to put her beautiful face on film). Conti's theme was Oscar-nominated but lost (while Conti himself was conducting the Academy Awards show in March 1982).
