The Music of James Bond

“Re-booting” the Bond franchise with a new actor (Daniel Craig), and starting the entire 007 saga over from scratch, Bond producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli retain David Arnold as their composer, keeping a musical consistency for a fourth consecutive film. Arnold and former Soundgarden guitarist Chris Cornell collaborate on a song, “You Know My Name”, which has a rougher edge but mirrors the masculinity and danger of Craig as Bond. The masterstroke of the score was never to play the entire “James Bond Theme” until the very end of the film (portions are subtly hinted at during the film), by which time the Bond persona was cemented. The film was a huge success and the song hit the U.K. top ten.
