The Music of James Bond

Jon Burlingame

Oxford University Press

The Broccoli-Saltzman “official” Bond films continued with Sean Connery as 007 and John Barry as musical director. Barry turned again to Leslie Bricusse for lyrics for Bond's Japanese adventure and to pop singer Nancy Sinatra as vocalist. Sinatra, however, was nervous and had difficulty negotiating the melodic contours of the song; it was ultimately cut together from an estimated 25 takes. Barry's score incorporates Far Eastern sounds and colors, along with a suspenseful “space march” and the romantic title tune.
