Sean Connery returned to the Bond role for the next film, and this time John Barry joined the Bond team for location filming in Las Vegas, soaking up the atmosphere in advance of writing many of the American-sounding jazz “source” pieces which would make up a third of the entire score. Don Black again teamed with Barry to write the title song, whose suggestive lyrics angered producer Harry Saltzman, who stormed out of Barry's flat at an early demonstration session. Shirley Bassey also returned to sing, making “Diamonds Are Forever” another classic Bond tune (although it only reached no. 57 on the American record charts, no. 38 in England, far from the commercial success of their “Goldfinger”).
