“Manners, Habits, Customs, and Even Dialect”: Sources of the Mormon Conflict
This chapter examines the sources of the Mormon conflict. It suggests that neither social, economic, or political factors can be put forward as the central—or even a constant—factor in the long history of Mormon persecution. On the other hand, even when the theological dimensions of conflict are not decisive, they are inescapable and present a constant feature in anti-Mormon antagonisms.
Keywords: mormon conflict, mormonism, religious persecution, anti-mormonism
