The dynamics captured in the previous chapters are recapitulated to elaborate on the key assumptions that undergird the perspective of political agency set forth in the introductory chapter. Specifically, the book's examination of the Black Seventh Ward over time builds on existing theories and discourse about urban and neighborhood change and inserts in them more directly the political agency of black residents. The concluding chapter reflects on the major lessons that the socioeconomic, cultural, and political history of the Black Seventh Ward and black Philadelphia teach about urban and neighborhood change and about the role of the political agency of black residents, leaders, and activists in such processes
