Making Things Better

A. David Napier

Oxford University Press

Once objects have been invested with symbolic meaning, and placed in symbolic contexts, readers are asked to consider under what circumstances they might give up or exchange such meaningful things. To consider this problem seriously, they are asked to devise a system of exchange that would allow for meaningful reciprocity among exchange partners. Guidelines are provided for experimenting with a system of symbolic exchange, and readers are invited to engage in symbolic exchange with others.
