This chapter discusses the prehistoric evolution of Egyptian society. It begins by summarizing current archaeological knowledge of Egyptian Prehistory. It then confronts these data with a macrostructure model of the stages through which a prehistoric society could be expected to develop. This methodology should provide the basis for making an informed assessment of what the social evolution of the period is likely to have been.
