This chapter examines Jewish social studies in Latin America. It highlights the increasing specialization of Jewish social studies and research and the use of sophisticated investigatory tools and techniques. It discusses the general theoretical traditions that show how Jewish studies were influenced by socio-cultural transformations in Jewish life and that of Latin America more generally. This chapter also suggests that Jewish leaders have already voiced a (belated) awareness of its relevance and importance for developing strategies and programs aimed at Latin American Jewish communities.
