Atlantic Europe in the First Millennium BC

Guillermo-Sven Reher Díez

Oxford University Press

This chapter addresses the question of why archaeology does not seem to have advanced much in the last century in studying ethnicity. To answer this question it is necessary to understand the advances of the study of ethnicity in anthropology, and how archaeology has responded to them. The discussions cover ethnicity in anthropology and archaeology; ethnicity in protohistorical archaeology; and overcoming the ‘introduction to ethnicity-syndrome’ in protohistorical archaeology.

Keywords:   archaeology, anthropology, ethnicity, proto-history
