Music and emotion: seven questions, seven answers

Music and emotion: seven questions, seven answers

(p.113) Chapter 7 Music and emotion: seven questions, seven answers
Music and the Mind

Patrik N. Juslin

Oxford University Press

The study of music and emotion has never been in a healthier state. Yet the field is marked by considerable disagreement regarding several issues. This chapter addresses seven questions that currently define the field. It offers preliminary answers to these questions based on the best theory and evidence available. The aim is to show that researchers have made some progress in answering these questions since John Sloboda’s pioneering early work, and that the answers, even those that come from basic as opposed to applied research, could have important implications for broader society.
