(p.96) 17 Conversion Stories
Among the Creationists

Jason Rosenhouse

Oxford University Press

In this chapter, the author considers the role of conversion stories in intelligent design (ID) discourse. Conversion stories feature prominently in creationist rhetoric. Just as evangelical Christians delight in telling you of the moment they came to a saving faith in Jesus Christ, proponents of creationism are eager to tell you when they became aware of the inadequacies of Darwinian evolution. An interesting representative of both genres at once is an account from Hank Hanegraaf, a popular Christian writer and talk-radio host. The author shares two conversion stories from the “Darwin vs. Design” conference held in Knoxville, Tennessee, in March 2007: one from a conference organizer and one from speaker Lee Strobel.
