My Problems with Religion

My Problems with Religion

(p.20) 5 My Problems with Religion
Among the Creationists

Jason Rosenhouse

Oxford University Press

In this chapter, the author, an atheist, shares his views about religion. He claims that religion is simultaneously fascinating and frustrating and explains why. Addressing Christianity specifically, he outlines three roles that science plays in his thinking. First, many of the specific facts that science has uncovered, evolution in particular, strike him as very difficult to reconcile with a Christian view of the world. Second, he believes that it is possible in principle to find scientific evidence strongly suggestive of an intelligent designer, if not the Christian God specifically. Third is the general approach to knowledge on which science is based. Science takes as its ideal that all theories must be judged by evidence. Finally, the author talks about the New Atheists.
