This chapter presents oral history interviews with eight American nuns who have never regretted choosing their vocation: Sister Frances Maureen Carlin, who lives at the Dominican House of Retirement in Amityville, New York; Sister Mary Elise Toal, a member of the Dominican community whose motherhouse is located in Amityville, New York; Sister Josephita Larrea, who has been an Oblate Sister of Providence for sixty-three years; and five School Sisters of St. Francis—Sister Celestine Schall, Sister Georgine Loacker, Sister Judeen Schulte, Sister Marlene Neises, and Sister Elizabeth Engel. The narratives capture the women's experiences over the past fifty years, beginning in the 1960s.
