This chapter outlines the capabilities of President Barack Obama in achieving the promises he delivered in his 2009 Inaugural Address of creating new jobs and laying a new foundation for economic growth. It focuses on the Obama administration’s efforts to undo the mistakes of the past; find the appropriate fiscal and monetary policies to combat recession and ensure recovery; and design a regulatory framework within which systemic risk could be managed and minimized. The chapter concludes with a discussion of the rescue, recovery, and reform measures that are essential in securing a coordinated international response to financial crisis and recession.
