George R. Goethals reflects on his most underappreciated work: a paper entitled “Perceptions of the magnitude and diversity of social support.” Goethals collaborated with Shelley Allison and Marnie Frost to investigate the “outgroup homogeneity effect” within the context of social support. Here he offers some thoughts that may be useful to younger generations of social psychologists.
