This chapter examines the guiding principles of the Music Utopia Elementary School (MUES). MUES' principle is centered on artistry and creativity through the use of a spiral curriculum approach. The spiral approach is a teaching diagram which revolves around listening, performing, composing, and improvising. This principle is reflected in MUES'music curriculum which includes teaching texture in the first grade, melody in the second grade, form and timbre in the third grade and fourth grade, and the interdisciplinary connections of larger elements in the fifth grade.
