Work and Family
Work and Family
Retooling the Foundation in Deep Purple
This chapter discusses the reconstruction of the work-family relationships and in turn, the reconstruction of relationships between men and women as well. The traditional arrangement has been that the man of the house works outside while the wife stayed at home to take the reins of domestication and child care. However, the current demands of information economy has greatly affected family formation as women gradually move out of the house and into the workforce, which then lessens the assurance of child supervision. Additionally, this chapter shows the difference of work-family interaction between blue and red families. Blue families focus on gaining human capital for their children, in contrast with the red families' mentality of a life built around marriage. Since this may result to early childbearing, there is a significantly lesser chance for red families to acquire the educational attainment needed in securing a stable future. Despite these differences, the possibility of compromising solutions in support of the work-family integration within the context of entering adulthood is not far from reach.
