This chapter discusses the factors that control the composition and dynamics of the understory community of the Quebec boreal forest. The first section analyzes the influence of fire recurrence, site type, and cover type on understory community composition throughout the range of the commercial boreal forest. The second section focuses on the role of forest management in understory community dynamics.
