This chapter is concerned with the requirements that a music education student must meet when preparing for a music teaching career. A music education teacher with a general understanding of special education and disability rights laws is guaranteed to be more effective in advocating for his or her students. Music education students must familiarize themselves with their state and national standards for the development of valid music goals. The chapter also presents an account of a deaf concert series where students were given the opportunity to teach at a school for the deaf, detailing the student lesson plan preparations and activities.
