Banking on Government
This chapter discusses the history of federal banking regulation. Topics covered include the establishment of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) as part of the New Deal's Banking Act of 1933; how financial policies have largely been born out of war; the 1999 Financial Services Modernization Act; and the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 which consolidated oversight agencies, regulated financial markets, outlined plans to extend credit and manage bankruptcies during downturns, and established added protections for consumers and investors.
