Benjamin Ingham

Oxford University Press

This chapter presents a selection of Benjamin Ingham's hymns, part of his A Collection of Hymns for Societies (1748). Ingham received his education at Queen's College, Oxford, from 1730 to 1734, during which time he met John and Charles Wesley and joined the “Holy Club.” He was not only a zealous evangelist, but also a gifted songwriter. His Collection of Hymns exhibits a Moravian-type fascination for the blood and wounds of Christ as well as God's grace given to sinners.
