Hugh Kennedy

Oxford University Press

This chapter presents excerpts from Hugh Kennedy's A Short Account of the Rise and Continuing Progress of a Remarkable Work of Grace in the United Netherlands (1752). Kennedy linked the 1742 revivals in Scotland to a larger international upsurge in religious activity that had expanded into the Netherlands. He mentioned a religious awakening under the guidance of two Dutch Reformed ministers, Gerard Kuypers and Jacobus Roldanus, at the town of Nieuwkerk (Nijkerk). In his account, he provided compelling evidence that America and Britain were not the only places to experience mid-century revivals.
