Gods, Heroes, and Ancestors

Anh Q. Tran

Oxford University Press

Book 2 discusses what the author believes to be the errors of Daoism and other errors that are ostensibly similar to the beliefs of what this text describes as, the true way. The ways of Laozi (Daoism) and Śākyamuni (Buddhism) are heterodox, the text states. Book 2 argues that these two ways are contrary to morality and cultural norms in every way. They are not consistent with the orthodox way, which is Confucianism. So they must be examined thoroughly and that is what Book 2 aims to do.
